What Is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma Vision Loss

Glaucoma is the little known thief of eye sight. It is the second leading cause of loss of eye sight in the United States, impacting over 2.7 million Americans, and not many people know what they are looking for.

Glaucoma has no early warning signs or symptoms. People who get Glaucoma don't know they have it until it's too late. If you are unfamiliar with Glaucoma, it is a group of eye disorders that can damage the optic nerve and impair peripheral vision.

Factors that contribute to increased likelihood of getting the disease are race, family history, personal history of diabetes, hypothyroidism, or severe eye trauma.

There are treatments available for Glaucoma, but the best way to make sure that you are on the lookout for the disease is routine yearly eye exams.
