Possible Cure For Inherited Eye Diseases

Cure For Inherited Eye Diseases

An Australian research team may have made a major breakthrough in the ability to cure inherited eye diseases. Using US-developed molecular gene shears, known as CRISPR, they could deploy a simple injection into the eye that could latch onto the genes of individual eye cells and chop out tiny DNA fragments containing rogue genes and replace them with normal genes.

There are many developments and hurdles in the way before Phenix City residents will see this procedure in our town, but it's exciting nonetheless to think that perhaps in the next decade, we could be able to cure hereditary eye diseases.

Phenix City, Smiths Station and Columbus residents, if you have questions about your eye health and the potential for inherited eye disease, make sure you make an appointment with the Gordy EyeCare team. We're here to help you
