Online Eye Exams, Do They Work?

Eye Exams Preventative Health Management

According to the CDC, only half of the people who are at serious risk for vision loss in the United States saw a eye doctor last year. That is a staggering number considering how eye health is treatable. But is cost the determining factor?

One company, Opternative, is attempting to bring a new service to everyone. Online eye exams. Currently patients take the online eye exam and they receive a physician-approved prescription within 24 hours.

An Opternative eye exam will cost $40 for a glasses or contact lens prescription, or $60 for both. Currently, 29 states are participating in service.

There is ongoing conversation on both sides as to the effectiveness and legitimacy  of an online eye exam, but this is a pretty cool example of how far technology has come.
