Facts About Dry Eye

What is dry eye?

Many Phenix City residents have heard of dry eye, but do you know what it is?

Dry eye occurs when the eye does not produce tears properly, or when the tears are not the correct consistency and evaporate too quickly.  Dealing with dry eye can make it more difficult to perform certain activities like, using computers or mobile devices, or reading for a long time.

Many people suffer with dry eye in some form. Typically, it is either in the form of a lack of tears or that the tears produced are not the right consistency and dry too quickly and can be the result of many different factors like medicine, surgery, thyroid or even inflammation of the eye.

Some of the symptoms of dry eye include:
  • Stinging or burning of the eyes
  • A sandy or gritty feeling in the eye
  • Episodes of excess tears followed by very dry periods
  • A stringy discharge from the eye
  • Pain and redness in the eye
If you suspect that you are dealing with dry eye, make sure to contact the Gordy EyeCare team. We have many options to help you combat dry eye and we'd love to help.
